Speaking of which...

I've had to deal with a plagiarist for my group essay. It was through his pure laziness that I managed to rat him out. You can find the relevant thread in Whinehouse for the full story.

And now I'm finally editing the group essay. My team members seem to be content with just throwing in all the facts and figures into the essay without actually using them to advance the main argument.

So now I'm forced to try to reword their disjointed and fragmented points into what seems like a coherent attempt to advance our main argument, enlighten the reader and prove our point. That's a pretty tall order, considering that the combined essay is 7500 words long, filling up 25 pages of MS Word.

I would far prefer writing a 3000-word essay than editing a combined 7500-word essay written by four separate people.

It is really no joke at all, trying to combine the work of four people into a coherent, logical whole. And my teammates' habit of simply tossing the points in without using them to advance their arguments makes things worse.

And don't get me started with some of their grammar, either... my Sec 4 English teacher would scream if she were to see the kind of grammar that they use.

On top of that, there are team dynamics to consider. There always seems to be a slacker/freeloader in whatever team I work in.

And this time, the freeloader is a bloody plagiarist as well. And he seems to be highly unrepentant of what he did - I still have yet to hear a single word of apology from him. Mad

every group will have a slacker or a freeloader.. me? I'm the kind that doesn't seem to be very on the ball and may not be always at meetings, but I will meet deadlines passed on to me and give you everything needed, and more. Wink

And he thinks that I'm out to besmirch his name when I involved everyone in the team when I threw the allegations of plagiarism at him.

Well, it does involve everyone, since his actions could have caused all of us to get zero for the essay and face disciplinary action. And I needed them to witness all the accumulated proof of his plagiarism so that he couldn't deny the evidence.

Pffft. I refuse to work with him in the future. Mad

Lack of competency is one thing. Not everyone is created equal.

Bad grammar and vocabulary, I can edit. I know what I was asking for when I volunteered to be the team's editor.

But this fella was lazy, dishonest, uncaring, selfish, narrow-minded and totally unconcerned with how his actions can seriously affect the lives of others. That bugger could have caused the whole lot of us to get zero for that essay (30% weightage) and made us face a disciplinary panel, and he can't even have the courtesy of apologising to everyone.

Arrrgh... just thinking about this whole thing is stressing me out. Mad

I really gotta watch my blood pressure.... at last count, it was pretty elevated (134/110).
